Privacy Policy

保存在这个浏览器的 chrome.storage.local 里:

  • 当前选择的服务;
  • 每个服务各自的 API Key、模型、推理档位,以及地址(仅自定义服务);
  • 目标语言;

Plain Translate (简单翻译; earlier released as Simple Translate) is a Chrome extension published by individual developer Max Lin (legal name YOUXIANG LIN; "I", "me"). This policy describes what the extension does with your data. It applies to Plain Translate on the Chrome Web Store and to Plain Translate loaded from the project's GitHub repository.

Summary

Plain Translate collects no personal data and sends nothing to me. When you turn translation on for a page, the text being translated is sent to the one translation service you configured, and nowhere else. Your settings and API keys stay in this browser.

What the extension touches

  • Text of the page you translate. Only after you click the toolbar icon or press the shortcut on a tab, the extension reads the paragraphs of that page, starting with those on screen, and inserts each translation under its paragraph. It does not run on any page you have not turned it on for, and reads nothing from other tabs.
  • Your settings, which you enter on the settings page (see "What is stored in your browser").

Network

All network requests go to the address of the translation service you selected, such as OpenRouter, OpenAI, DeepSeek, a local Ollama, or a custom address you entered:

  • Translation: the paragraphs being translated, the translation instructions (including the target language), the model name, any reasoning level or extra request fields you set, and your API key in the request header. The page's address and title are not sent.
  • Test button: a fixed sample sentence, sent the same way.
  • Model list: when the settings page needs it, a request for the service's list of models, carrying your API key and no page text.

That service handles what it receives under its own terms and privacy policy, and bills you under your own account with it. I run no server, and the extension does not connect to me or to any other party.

What is stored in your browser

In this browser's chrome.storage.local:

  • the selected service;
  • for each service: your API key, the model, the reasoning level, and the address (custom service only);
  • the target language;
  • extra request fields, if you entered any.

The API key is not passed to the web pages you translate. Changing a custom service's address to a different host clears the key saved for it. Translations are kept only in the memory of the open page and disappear when the page is closed or reloaded.

Permissions

  • activeTab: access to the current tab only when you click the icon or press the shortcut.
  • scripting: to add the translation script and styles to that tab at that moment.
  • storage: to save the settings listed above.
  • Optional site access: Chrome asks you to allow access to the translation service's address when you pick a service, save a key, change the address, press Test, or refresh the model list. The extension uses it only to send requests to that address. It does not ask for access to all websites.

You can remove site access at any time on the extension's details page in chrome://extensions.

Analytics and tracking

The extension contains no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking code, and has no third-party dependencies.

Plain Translate's use of information received from the browser adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements: page text and your API key are used only to translate the pages you ask it to translate, sent only to the service you chose, not sold, not used for advertising, and not read by me or anyone else on my behalf.

How to remove your data

  1. On the settings page, use "Remove Key…" for each saved key, or
  2. remove the extension in chrome://extensions, which also removes its stored settings.

Data already sent to your translation service is held by that service; contact it to remove it.

Children

Plain Translate is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If what the extension does with data changes, I will update this policy and its effective date before or when the new version is released.
