Afterword (后记) keeps a record of the films and shows you have watched, the books and comics you have read, and the games you have played. It consists of an iPhone app and the website afterword.max1874.com, which share one account and one set of data. This policy explains what we keep, why, who can see it, and how to delete it.

The app contains no third-party analytics, crash reporting or advertising services. We do not track you, and we do not sell or share your data. The app sends anonymous usage statistics only to an analytics server we run ourselves; see "Anonymous usage statistics" below.

Every account has a public profile at afterword.max1874.com/@username. Your name, username and all of your marks (the work, status, star rating, short review and date) on that page can be seen by anyone without signing in, and search engines may index them. There is currently no private option. Please leave out of your reviews anything you do not want to be public.

Entries for works (title, cover, summary and so on) are shared by all users; marks belong to each account.

To understand how many people use the app and for how long, the app sends anonymous usage events to an analytics server we run ourselves, with no third party involved. They contain: when the app was installed and opened, time spent, the app version, device model, OS version and language. The events carry only a randomly generated install number that is not derived from any device identifier, changes when you reinstall the app, and is not linked to your account, username or marks. The analytics server is in mainland China (Alibaba Cloud, Shanghai). The website does not collect these statistics.

When you search for a work, the search terms go to our server, which looks them up in public catalogs (Douban, Bangumi, TMDB, Google Books) and returns the results. These lookups do not include your account information. To find landscape artwork, the server also looks up works by title on Steam, IGDB and SteamGridDB.

When you mark a work, the server copies its cover into our own storage. Covers that have not been copied yet, and some search-result thumbnails, are loaded by the app and the website directly from the catalog's image servers, which can then see your IP address.

The service runs on Cloudflare: the database is Cloudflare D1 and covers are stored in Cloudflare R2. The servers are outside mainland China. As our host, Cloudflare processes request information such as IP addresses to run and protect the service. We have Cloudflare's request logs turned on for troubleshooting; Cloudflare deletes them automatically under its retention period.

• Your sign-in token, in the iOS Keychain, on this device only and not synced through iCloud. It is removed when you sign out.
• The most recently loaded pages and cover images, in the app's cache, so screens can show at once. Page data is cleared when you sign out; deleting the app clears everything.

• A single mark: open the work and tap 删除这条标记 (delete this mark) in the mark form.
• Signed-in devices and passkeys: remove them or sign them out in Settings.
• Your whole account: in the app, 我的 → 账号与安全 → 删除账号 (Me → Account & Security → Delete Account), or on the website, Settings → 删除账号, and type your username to confirm. The account, avatar, passkeys, sessions (every device is signed out at once), recovery codes and all of its marks are deleted immediately and cannot be recovered. Entries you added stay in the shared catalogue, no longer linked to you. You can also email hi@max1874.com with your username and we will delete it for you.

Afterword is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date at the top.
