Watchtrail

Privacy Policy

Watchtrail 是由个人开发者 Max Lin(法定姓名 YOUXIANG LIN,下称「我」)发布的浏览器扩展。

Watchtrail

  • *.hdslb.com(B 站的图片服务器):在扩展的观看记录页上显示视频封面缩略图。

Effective date: 2026-10-11

Watchtrail is a browser extension published by the individual developer Max Lin (legal name YOUXIANG LIN; "I" below). This policy explains how the extension handles your data. It applies to Watchtrail on the Chrome Web Store and to Watchtrail loaded unpacked from the project's source code.

Summary

  • I run no server for Watchtrail and never receive your watch history, settings or any other data.
  • Your watch history is stored only in your own browser.
  • Watchtrail talks only to bilibili's servers, reading your own watch history and creators' public video lists.
  • There is no analytics, telemetry, advertising or tracking, and no data is sold or transferred.

What the extension reads

  • Your bilibili watch history. When it is installed, when the browser starts, every 30 minutes after that, and when you press Sync in the popup, Watchtrail requests your watch history from bilibili's history endpoint. The request uses the bilibili sign-in your browser already has (its cookies), the same request your browser makes when you open History on bilibili's website. What comes back includes video titles, cover image addresses, creator names and IDs, how far you watched and when.
  • Playback position on video pages. While you watch on a bilibili video page, Watchtrail reads the video's ID, part number and current position, and asks bilibili's video information endpoint for that video's public title and length.
  • Which videos a list page shows. On creator pages, favourites, watch later, search results and followed-anime lists, Watchtrail reads the IDs of the video cards on the page so it can draw your progress on their thumbnails. On followed-anime lists it also reads the lines bilibili itself writes on each card (such as "watched up to episode 96"), so as not to repeat them. It reads nothing else on those pages.
  • Creators' public video lists. Only when you open the extension's Creators view and choose a creator does Watchtrail request that creator's publicly published video list from bilibili, to mark which videos you have and have not watched.

Where data is stored

  • Watch records are kept in a local database (IndexedDB) that your browser assigns to this extension alone.
  • Cached creator video lists, your language choice and sync status are kept in the extension's local storage (chrome.storage.local).
  • None of this leaves your browser, and none of it is uploaded to your account through browser sync.

What goes over the network, and to whom

Watchtrail sends requests only to:

  • api.bilibili.com: to read your watch history, video information and creators' public video lists. Requests carry the bilibili cookies already in your browser.
  • *.hdslb.com (bilibili's image servers): to show cover thumbnails on the extension's history page. These requests carry no referrer.

These requests go to bilibili and are governed by bilibili's own terms and privacy policy. Watchtrail sends bilibili no data obtained from anywhere else. Watchtrail makes no other network requests.

Export files

Only when you press Export on the extension's settings page does Watchtrail write all records to a JSON file and hand it to your browser to download, to a location you choose. The file is yours; I have no access to it. When you import, the extension reads only the file you select.

Permissions

  • storage, unlimitedStorage: to keep watch records and settings locally. The archive only grows, and the default quota would eventually run out.
  • alarms: to sync watch history every 30 minutes.
  • Access to api.bilibili.com and *.bilibili.com: to read watch history, draw progress bars on bilibili's list pages, and read playback position on video pages.

Analytics and tracking

Watchtrail contains no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking code, and collects no usage data.

Watchtrail's use of information received from the browser adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements: data is used only to provide the extension's features to you, for no other purpose; it is not sold, not transferred to any third party, not used for advertising, and not read by humans.

How to delete your data

  • Remove Watchtrail on your browser's extensions page; the browser deletes all of its local data at the same time.
  • Delete any files you exported yourself.
  • Your watch history on bilibili's servers is held by bilibili; manage it on bilibili's History page.

Children

Watchtrail is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone — it collects none at all.

Changes to this policy

If what Watchtrail does with data changes, I will update this policy and its effective date before or when the new version is released.
